Several years after the aforementioned service, the superintendent met with Ralph Diffendorfer of the Methodist Young People’s Missionary Movement, after which the pair began to design the Christian flag. The superintendent didn’t explicitly seek designs from the church’s students, but it paved the way for the modern-day Christian flag, nonetheless. In 1897, a church on Coney Island, New York held a service in which the superintendent asked students for input on a design for a Christian flag. The Christian flag has origins dating back to the 19th century.
